I will see if the lovely hostess, Ying, will remember my name. This will be a go-to-spot when we next over night near SFO. The cold of the ice cubes enhanced the taste of the orange and was a novel idea. The meal ended with the traditional Chinese fortune cookies and a sliced orange that was served with a few ice cubes on top. We took home half of the Tan Tan Noodles, the remaining small amount of the fish with broccoli and a large portion of rice. This is a dish I think will be better after a night in the refrigerator. The Tan Tan Noodles were a new dish to me, and while I love noodles, the sauce left something to be desired. Does Hot Wok Bistro offer delivery in San Mateo Yes, Hot Wok. Yes, you can access the menu for Hot Wok Bistro online on Postmates. Filled with all types of ingredients and with just the right spicy kick. The hot & sour soup – always a good way to judge a new Chinese restaurant – was very good. Our order was taken promptly: Hot & Sour Soup, Broccoli Soy with Fish and Tan Tan Noodles with Pork. We were seated in the back dining room, more suitable for in-house dining than the tables at the front of the restaurant – those host mostly people waiting for Take Away pickup orders – lots of take way served out of this tiny kitchen. This has to be one of the most out of the way Chinese restaurants I have experienced, but worth a little effort to seek it out in an industrial/residential area of San Mateo along the 101 freeway. A quick Google search of the area, positive reviews on Yelp and Trip Advisor, and we were en route in short order. We were staying overnight near SFO and had a craving for Chinese food. This was our first visit to this highly rated Chinese restaurant. Had dinner with my wife on Saturday 25 October 2014. We live in San Mateo within a couple of blocks of several chinese restaurants but Hot Wok Bistro is our new "go to" restaurant for chinese food! The portions are generous and the pricing is reasonable. We asked for brown rice and enjoyed it's nutty texture. The vegetables were delicately sliced and proportionately mixed (not cut in chucks with too much bok choy). We had chinese chicken salad, sweet and sour pork, light stir fry with chicken and combination fried rice. The owner, Tim, who later introduced himself assured us that the kitchen would prepare anything typically found on chinese menus (moo-shu vegetables, curry, etc). At first glance, the menu seemed limited but we asked the waiter for combination fried rice (not on the menu) and he readily agreed. No wonder, the food was fresh and not at all greasy. We went for an early dinner (5:00) and sat watching the volume of take out orders going out the door. Yes, it's an out of the way, neighborhood spot, but that's part of it's charm. Prices were relatively cheap and the service was very nice.My husband and I won a gift certificate to Hot Wok Bistro and were delightfully surprised by our experience. Good quality properly cooked noodles with a bite would have helped the dish immensely as well. Nasi gocie doceniaj nasze bistro za jako i wieo naszej ywnoci. Like sesame seeds, scallions? to finish the dish. Moesz równie zoy zamówienie na wynos Jarosaw - Czy to w przerwie na lunch, czy na pyszn przeksk z przyjaciómi lub kolegami po pracy nasz lokal jest odpowiedni na kad okazj. It also needed garnishing to counter the brown mush look and texture. The noodles killed the dish because it was bland overcook and I don't know how they get it sooooo burning hot?! It staid piping burning hot the whole time I ate it. It looked like brown mush covered over very limp overcooked noodles. The tan tan noodle, came in a huge bowl! The smell was great and so was the taste of the sauce. So it was decent, but nothing out of the ordinary. Not oily, crispy and chewy at once, but the filling used either fake crab or generic canned crab. How much more classic can you get than crab rangoon at a am-chi restaurant, right? And it was good. Food: I went at lunch and ordered crab rangoon and Tan Tan noodle based on rave reviews from Yelp and google. The walls are covered with snap shots of people who have eaten surrounding framed sun faded prints of the Mediterranean? Very odd. Front is more 'friendly in feel' and works with this 'modern' yet casual and friendly concept. With umbrellas and Chinese lanterns on the ceiling. I like that there is a 'front' with a bar and exposed kitchen. First it is an odd and interesting space. Modern take on 'classic' American Chinese food, right? I was excited. Was very curious to see how this place would be. A small and very busy eatery with friendly staff and quick service, Hot Wok Bistros popularity has spread way beyond the business area it is located.
